Elon Musk’s company SpaceX is revolutionizing the way we access the Internet every day. Currently, most of the Internet works on the ground infrastructure. So, its access is limited to a few cities. Most of the remote locations are still don’t have an internet connection. Starlink Satellite Broadband will solve this problem.

Furthermore, the ground infrastructure has its problems. First of all, it is costly to lay down ground infrastructure. It is also complicated to maintain and upgrade as technology advances. So, what about space? What if we provide connectivity through space? SpaceX has an answer to this problem.

The idea behind Starlink satellite broadband is to provide Internet through satellites moving in Low Earth Orbit. As a result, Starlink can provide high-speed internet access across the Globe. It will be very beneficial for people having unreliable and costly internet access. It will also be helpful for people who don’t have internet access at all.

Initially, Starlink is planning to send 12000 satellites that will circle the earth in Low Earth Orbit. That means these satellites will circle the globe at 550 km from the earth’s surface. The regular satellites circle the earth at 1000+kms.

Furthermore, each satellite weighs 260kgs. The satellite also features a sleek and compact flat panel design. Hence, it minimizes volume. This typical setup helps to take full advantage of the launch capabilities of the Falcon9 rocket.

Besides, the satellite has four powerful phased array antennas. These antennas can place a large amount of throughput and redirect it in very little time. The star link satellite also has a singular solar array. So, it simplifies the system. Besides, standardized solar cells are easier to manufacture and integrate.

Besides, these satellites also have an ion propulsion system. It is the first of its kind ion propulsion system that uses krypton. The satellite has highly efficient thrusters powered by Krypton. These thrusters help to maneuver satellites in space. These Thrusters also deorbit the satellite at the end of the satellite’s service life.

Furthermore, the in-house navigation sensors tell the satellites about their altitude. Hence, the exact positioning of satellites enables the best broadband throughput. These satellites also have a collision-avoidance system. This system autonomously maneuvers satellites and avoids collision with other space crafts or space debris. It entirely avoids human errors and resulting damage.

Advantages of Satellite Internet

The most crucial advantage of satellite internet is that the service providers can provide fast internet worldwide. The reliable internet will now be possible in remote locations. So, you get fast and reliable internet in every corner of the world. It simply avoids disruptions due to power failure and cable cuts.

You can also have internet connectivity in areas where the physical network is beyond accessible. We can quickly set up connectivity in areas of natural disasters like cyclones and hurricanes. Laying down those cables in devastated areas take a long time, but you can set up satellite internet very fast at such locations.

Disadvantages of Satellite Internet

The deployment of a large number of satellites may create light pollution. It has a direct impact on astronomers and deep space observatories. Also, a large number of satellites may create a danger of collision with other satellites. The problem of space debris may increase after the end of the service life of these satellites.

In conclusion, the Starlink Satellite Internet will be the next frontier in providing Internet connectivity worldwide. We are sure it will benefit the world and provide reliable connectivity in remote places of Earth.
