EPABX working explained
First of all, you always hear the telephones ringing in big multi-storied offices. An attendant or operator transfers the call as per need. Big organizations need voice communication for internal communication. Here, EPABX plays a vital role in the internal communication of an office. EPABX means Electronic Private Automatic Branch Exchange.

Furthermore, large organizations use EPABX for faster communication among employees. The system can also be useful for external communication with clients. The system is beneficial to keep everyone within the loop. Even the boss can talk directly to the worker working on a continuous line. Such easy communication in a large organization is difficult. However, EPABX bridges the gap between employees.
EPABX Installation
The installation of the EPABX needs a primary survey of the organization. The installation team must know all the traffic patterns inside the building of the organization. The preliminary survey can help to identify the best possible EPABX system for the organization.
The private branch exchange works as an additional exchange that works along with a service provider’s exchange. The system must have a voice auto attendant. Such a feature is beneficial for attendants as it is challenging to answer every call coming in and going out.
Besides, the installation team must identify the requirements of the institution and traffic patterns within the organization. An inadequate survey may lead to the wrong selection of the system leading to monetary loss and frustrations.
How does EPABX work?
The electronic private automatic branch exchange allows organizations to cut costs as it doesn’t need to run the line from every phone in the building to the telephone exchange. Hence, the company can save lots of money.
The EPABX works exactly like an exchange that sends, receives, and forward calls from the organization to the outside world. Several lines coming from the outside of the building ends at the PBX. Besides, several lines coming from inside the building also terminate at the PBX switchboard.
Furthermore, the external lines may be coming from various ISPs and may have an entirely different way of communication. The external sources of communication may be PSTN, GSM/CDMA, VoIP, and Satellite. The internal communication most of the time works with standard phones.
The electronic private branch exchange typically does not need any operator. A computer on board handles all the calls and switches them according to dialed numbers. Thus, it saves a lot of human effort in transferring the incoming and outgoing calls. Large organizations rely on communication, and in massive organizations, thousands of calls happen simultaneously. So, computers save human efforts and transfer calls seamlessly.
Furthermore, the VoIP for PBX can further reduce the company’s cost. The system converts all the calls into digital data packets and sends them over the Internet. Thus, the company uses the same infrastructure for data and telephonic communication. This system needs particular software and hardware to use VoIP for PBX. In the case of VoIP, the central switchboard is replaced by a server.
Advantages
The main advantage of EPABX for large organizations is cutting the cost. As employees share resources and for external calls, a single line can work for the entire organization. So, the company can reduce phone expenses.
Furthermore, the EPABX system is completely programmable. Hence, companies can modify the setup as per custom needs. The system has a minimal size and doesn’t occupy much space. The compact nature of the system makes it more practical.
Also, the system is expandable and can occupy new employees very easily. So, growing companies can keep the same setup without any worry. The system’s different functions like a conference call, call transfer, call waiting, automatic attendant, auto ring back features help in daily use. Some systems have additional features such as do not disturb, music on hold, night mode, meeting reminders, and alarms to keep things in the flow.
Also, call forwarding, voice mail, and interactive voice response (IVR) further simplify tasks. So, the company’s internal communication is healthy and more productive than ever before through EPABX.
In conclusion, EPABX changes the way how organizations can communicate internally. The system is still evolving with digital transformation. So, we may say that future systems are more robust and smarter than ever before.
